Icky bathroom mess…

If you aren’t a fan of mold & mildew (who is?!) beware of the pictures I will be posting!

Our shower & bathroom has seen better days. That lovely pink stuff (and darker, grosser stuff) that grows in showers was extremely difficult to keep away. We decided that it was the obviously previous-homeowner installed border connecting the tile to the tub that was the culprit. It did not have a water-tight seal & we knew that it was letting water in, somewhere – either just behind the border – or worse, into the underbelly of the tub & wall.

Solution #1: ripping off the border, cleaning like a madwoman, and putting caulking on the necessary areas. (estimated cost = 2 tubes of caulking)

Solution #2: ripping apart the whole bathroom & starting fresh. (estimated cost = much, much more)

With at least 3 people showering in the shower every day, its hard to find the time to investigate, let alone service the shower & not make us all sweaty & dirty for an indefinite amount of time… so when the boys took off with Alec on Friday – I decided it was the perfect time to assess the situation.

So, I got right into it, and started ripping the border off. Fortunately, there wasn’t a HUGE gap between the tile & tub as I had feared, there was a slight gap that would open more when I pressed on it.  Solution #1 was my chosen solution based on the fact that we had already purchased the caulking!
Here’s the icky border mess:

Then I messily put on the caulking as a temporary solution until we can save up for a renovation of the whole bathroom.
This was taken while it was drying:

Temporary success!! Yes!
Until next time…
